|
|
I have just put about 20 to 30 different categories of POI into the GB maps section of my new Go 520 but some of them do not even show up in the POI list so I cant tick them to show on the map. I downloaded them from pocketgpsworld's site and copied them straight into the maps folder. I even copied the files that will not show up from my old Go Classic which showed them ok, so I know that the files work, but they still won't display on the Go 520. Please can someone tell me what I am doing wrong or how I can enable them. |

It might be an idea to check and see how many .ov2 files you have in the maps folder because there is a limit to how many the unit can show. I am not sure of the limit but let us know how many .ov2 files you have. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

If you have the original software version on the 520 the limit is 100 POI categories, if you have the latest software version installed you can have upto 300 custom POI Categories installed.
When you say you copied the download straight to the map folder, you did remember to unzip it first? - Mike |

There are only about 50 .ov2 files so it should be ok and everything was unzipped first but still the added POI's don't appear in the list.
TomTom say I should only copy the .cfg files, but I don't have any of these and don't know where to get them from. I have always used .ov2 files before and never had a problem.
Any further ideas? |

Ignore Tom Tom! As so often, their advice here is simply wrong!
TT's own POI files use an extra .inf file to give version numbers to Home, but are not needed for any from elsewhere. I've never seen a .cfg file associated with a POI file before. In all cases, the .ov2 file and the .bmp file are the important ones.
Lets go back to first principles...
Try making your own new POI category - Change Preferences / Manage POI / Add POI category. Call it "Test" and give it one of the standard coloured markers.
Add a single POI in that new category - Change Preferences / Manage POI / Add POI / From map.
Now see if that new "Test" category shows up in the list.
Connect up to the PC, run Windows Explorer and browse to the TomTom drive and into the map folder ('Western Europe', 'UK and EI' or whatever)
You should now see two files "Test.ov2" and "Test.bmp", these are the POI category you just made. (This is also where you count up all the .ov2 files again - INCLUDING anything like CAxxxx.ov2, PAxxxx.ov2 and "Safety_Cam_UK_TomTom.ov2" and its foreign variants!)
If all that works, you will know that there was enough room for at least one more of your added POI files, and the POI system is working, so the problem must lie with the files themselves. Do another download of just one simple one and try that? |

I managed to fix my problem by deleting all the POI's I had added and by putting them back on a couple of categories at a time instead of all at once, because I did the 'test' POI and that worked ok.
Thanks for all your suggestions and help, very much appreciated.
Cheers,
Rich. |
