Something to think about.
Don't let Microsoft ActiveSync make a automatic backup. If you have a system crach in your iPaq you have to put it on the cradle to restore the lost files. By doing this a automatic backup is performed of your crashed system, overwriting your only hope. Many hours work lost.

Sorry to hear about your data loss, but maybe a good time to learn from mistakes.

I'm not sure if your Ipaq allows you to do a backup to built-in-storage, or the CF or SD card. I'm pretty sure that many Ipaqs do have this function. My Dell Axim does.

On the Axim just use the data backup program and it will save a full ghost copy of your whole pda programs and settings to your home computer, built-in-storage, or CF and SD card. Therefore if you lose power, or have to do a hard-reset, you can restore your pda immediately.

This restore function is especially helpful if you have to do a hard-reset with your PDA/sat nav away from home. Restore your pda back to health from bis/cf/sd in seconds.

Alternatively maybe try

Sprite Backup

which will do a ghost backup for you, or as many backups as you like, to home computer/bis/cf/sd card and this also allows you to compress the data. To restore, simply run the Sprite, which is an executable program, and your pda is back in business. Wink

No one who uses their pda for Sat Nav should be without a backup(s) in bis/cf/sd imo Thumbs Up

ActiveSync backup is the pits, I got burned once about 3 years ago back in the days of Palm PC when it was in the early stages and never used it again. Sprite Backup really is the only backup program to get, if you have an iPAQ it's free (cut down version), or you can register and purchase the full program.
