I am afraid it was done 5 minutes ago. Is there any way to change it.

They may have been new in 2006 when that thread was started but they are certainly not the latest now.

Read my warning about dates within the thread that is linked - this is for data that is over two years old - Mike

Don't worry about it. It was only one word that made the grammar a bit odd.

So what do we think about these postcode files?
TomTom themselves told me to give my up-to-date ones to a friend. (see further up this topic). Does that mean they don't care about them being distributed. Or are they not theirs to offer?

Listen to this Andy. I just checked the version of my postcodes as Mike showed me how to do it and he also said that we are up to v701 and i am still at v504 and bought my map only 4 months ago. So if the postcodes get updated with the map why am i still on v504. So how can they answer this then. Might need a strongly worded letter from you again. Smile

They DON'T get updated. You've got the same file as you had with the first maps you had.
And as you've found, if you complain, they point you to a version that is just as old or even older than what you had already.

I think the first letter should be enough to get started. Hopefully enough to make them squirm a bit anyway!

Is there any way of getting the latest files and how do you go about it.

Ian, have you been reading the last few posts?
The files are simple to copy, but we believe they are copyright and therefore cannot be shared (just like maps).

TomTom have been offering downloads and links 'on and off' when people complain but these have been old versions, and they have even told me to share mine with a friend.

but I'm not going to put them up on a website until the legality of it is clearer and PGPSW wouldn't let me post a link to it here for the same reason.

Suggest you send a similar message to TomTom as I outlined above, saying you want the latest postcodes, but the ones you have seen made available in the past are out of date.

I downloaded a trial version of some file comparison software and compared the one in Dipsticks link with my own one (ver604).

Interesting results, but still not sure what it means although it looks promising.

The one from the link had 84981 lines of text and my version had 82942. Whether more lines means more postcodes I don't know.

I got the software from here: http://www.scootersoftware.com/download.php

It would be be interesting if it was compared with the 701 version.

Any volunteers.

I've just checked through all my TTG720 backups, and I have v701 in all of them, including the replacement new unit I got yesterday, both before and after updating to the latest maps.

I had 603 on my old 910 with 660 maps and now I have 701 with the 710.
