Firmware version numbers.

I've bought two X970T now and have upgraded the application software to version 7.03 on both. However, I noticed that the first X970T (bought in Sept) has a firmware version of 1.0505.0409 (July 30 2007) and the second one (bought in Dec) has firmware version 3.0101.0409 (Aug 29 2007). I wonder what this version difference actually fixes?

This is what Viamichelin Support said about it.

"Thank you for your interest in ViaMichelin products and activities.
We would like to apologize for the delay in answering as we are currently receiving a large number of emails.
Before august 2007 the ViaMichelin Navigation X970T had 2 different ROMs
: 1.0505.0409 and 1.0101.0409 (0409 for France only).
After August 2007 the ViaMichelin Navigation X970T (RTC) had the following ROM : 3.0101.0409.

The modifications that have been done are related to hardware components only, but no software modifications. Then you cannot update your ROM as it's related to the hardware only, and brings no real changes for the software use.

We hope that we have answered your request, and are at your disposal should you have any other suggestions or questions."

That explains the diffs then
