Please can anyone tell me what the SD card facility can be used for. For instance, can the SD card be used instead of the internal memory, assuming all files were copied onto it?

It can be used for extra maps and all things like poi's, mp3's, pictures, extra voices video's and lots more. I don't know why you would want to copy the files from the internal drive as that is much faster.

The POI files have to go in the active map folder in order for the device to use them, so unless you have a map on the SD card you cannot place POI files on the SD card.
mp3's pictures and video footage is fine so long as you have the files in the correctly named folder, and in the case of video footage you need to have a third party video player plug in installed to the unit.
The SD card will supplement the onboard memory IF files are stored in correctly named folders - Mike
