Hi

I am considering the Mitac 338 - anyone had experience with it?
I notice that Mitac 338 comes bundled with TomTom2 + "TomTom GPS
smart antenna"(Is it the Leadtek 9532?? which is a GPS smart antenna
with RS232)
Therefore they must be compatible - so either there is RS232 on the PDA
(although Mitac sales tell me otherwise) serial connector OR a USB to
RS232 conversion goes on in the connecting cables.

If it is USB compatible
When the Mitac 338 normally connects to a PC it becomes the "USB client" -
I presume when it connectors to a GPS sensor it becomes a "USB host"
would this be correct ?

Thanks

David

No.
GPS use serial port and has nothing to do with USB.
Mio 338 has a serial port, it is simple as that.

It also has a USB port (client) so is able to connect to a host (PC)

As Mio 338 has a serial port, and GPS is a serial device, the 2 can communicate with each other with the right connecting cable.

On the other hand, a USB host device can only communicate with a client.
A host cannot connect to another host, nor a client to a client.

The USB port on the Mio is a client, A USB GPS is also a client, so you cannot connect a USB GPS (or any USB client device).

Some PDAs now have both USB host and client ports so it is possible to connect a USB client device (GPS/Harddisk) with the right driver (yes driver is needed).

Is that a bit confusing?
