I have searched the forum for an answer to this, but I haven't found one. (Doesn't mean to say there isn't one, just that I haven't come across it)

Is there an easy way to identify the Swiss cameras in the speed camera database?

I download the speed-zoned file (ASC format), but there does not seem to be any country code to identify which camera is where, so it's hard to decide which ones to delete.

Alternatively, is there a version of the database which does not contain camera locations for those countries where location tools are not permitted?

TIA

Alistair

It's illegal to have speed camera warnings on your device when using in Switzerland.

Which is EXACTLY why I want to identify them and remove them.

Or do you mean it is illegal to have ANY camera database on a satnav in Switzerland?

Yes, sorry, didn't make myself clear.

Recently, somewhere on this forum, someone mentioned Mio had removed the Swiss cameras when connected for updates.

Other countries cameras were left on but it's my understanding, from reading these posts, it's illegal to have ANY camera database on a device.

The view from the PGPSW team is on the Switzerland covered? thread. There are 12 cameras in the database according to the link on the download page. Unsure of an easy way of identifying them though (apart from drilling down the map and deleting them one by one).

Team, Would it be possible to list the Swiss cameras from the main database (must have country details there) so that those that wish to comply with local law know which cameras to delete? Idea Would be simple to delete via POIEdit if you knew the camera IDs.

Did a quick search and came up with this:

REDLIGHT:41493@50
REDLIGHT:37624
TRUVELO:41491@60
REDLIGHT:41494@50
TRUVELO:41497@60
REDLIGHT:41492@50
TRUVELO:41496@80
REDLIGHT:41495@50
TRUVELO:31089@120
TRUVELO:37102@100
GATSO:27901
GATSO:27900
GATSO:28068

I'm not sure if it's complete. Embarassed

Many thanks for all the replies. I think (from the reading I have done in the forums) that this is going to become a bigger issue if more countries take the same approach as the Swiss.
I have seen that POIWarner has fitted a "panic" button to the latest releases, which apparently does an instant delete of all selected POI files. Just the thing as the local constabulary pull you over.

I like the suggestion from GerryC of having a means of identifying the country. I seem to remember that the early consolidated continental speedcam files had a country identifier, rather than the camera type identifier in the later releases.

It is still an excellent database, and I will still be downloading it on a regular basis. Just wish I could find a new camera and get it free!!

I agree with you Richard - downloaded tonight, CSV set and imported into Autoroute Express to look.

Except, gatso 28068 seems to be just inside France, on the autoroute or whatever it's called, running alongside the border south of Geneva.

You'd still be wise to find out the exact law.
Is it illegal to have SWISS cameras on the unit or ANY camera database?

Looking at the present .gpx file in relation to my proposed caravanning holiday to Switzerland this summer:-

There are only 12.

Unless you are visiting Geneva [2 cameras] or Winterthur [6 cameras] there are only four other cameras on the Autoroutes.
Two around Lake Geneva [where I will not be going]
Two around Zurich [where I will be passing through]

I will remove all 12 Swiss Cameras before loading the database to the units.
I am putting those two around Zurich in as normal 'waypoints' with a personal code and will not call them cameras!

The only problem being that 'towing' speeds are not reflected in the camera database!!

Many, Many Years ago, there were several others I know of. One on the autoroute by A14/A2 junction. And the other is as you drive into Zurich Airport. That was a clear one. Hidden by a tree in dark grey and after quick successive signs going 90, 70, 50 and boom! I have not been back to Switzerland since, so I have no idea if there is a speeding fine waiting for me... There are others I remember around Zug, Rotkruez, Cham and Hunenburg, but is was over 10 years ago.
