Ello,

Just got an IPAQ 4150 with Fortuna clipon and was wondering about the GPS Device Driver select in TomTom Nav 2. I've read that the best choice is to use NMEA38000, but have also read that the Emtax Wireless GPS is the best choice. Can anyone clear up what the differences are and make a recommendation?

I'm currently using it fine on Emtac Wireless COM6 - will this use NMEA or SIRF as the GPS protocol?

Thanks!
Clem

The COM port has nothing to do with the protocol used. If it runs fine with port COM6: and protocol NMEA 38400 then be happy and don't touch it.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I know that the COM port doesn't have anything to do with the protocol but I mentioned that I was using EMTAC Wireless GPS (as opposed the NMEA 0183v2 38400) driver choice.

The question I'm asking is what protocol does EMTAC Wireless GPS use - NMEA or SIRF?

I had better results on my NAVMAN 3000 sleeve when using SIRF than NMEA.

Regards
Clem

The Emtac Wireless can use both protocols, but it is working best at NMEA - that's my personal experience
