Really happy with my TomTom go500 except for the POI's. My old Garmin i3 had much better ones (mostly thanks to MaFt) and the new tomtom ones are crap, unless I'm looking in the wrong places. Is there anywhere that lists all supermarkets/museums/hospitals etc that I am missing?

Also, is there much of a difference between the new TomTom 7 map and the older one? I switched from Garmin becuase the maps were old, but the TomTom doesn't seem much newer (although the functionality is miles better). E.g. there are roads which were built 5 yrs+ ago and this doesn't know them Sad

Ta much guys

You can download all supermarket POI's (either individual or combined) on PocketGPS. Work fine on my 500. Just scroll down the left hand margin to find them.

Thanks for that guys. Is there an easy way to convert my old ones (from the i3|)? Tried some of the converting tools but they kept bombing out. Only asking cos the ones I had covered everything...

Ta much again.

Have a look at POIEdit this has a rather handy "Batch Converter" within the application - Mike

Cheers Mike, will do Smile

BTW has anyone tried the newer maps and found a big difference with them? Was going to buy but wasn't sure how much has been updated...

If you are using the Europe maps then finding towns is much quicker, you select the country first and then the town. The country stays choosed until you change it. TomTom then only searches the one country instead of the long pause whilst it searched all Europe.

The new version 7 maps are needed if you want to use mapshare.

Hi all! I've tried to download the latest POI (UK ones) and it says "not a valid archive" when I click on the downloaded files. Is this a 'corupt' file? Also..whats the latest on the POI from Ordnance Survey?? I guess none of us will know til well into the NEW YEAR. But I'd happily pay a fiver subscription if they'll update every month or so when new ones appear. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE. Very Happy

Bod35 can you try and download just a few POI categories (say 5 to start with) and make sure you check the box labeled "ShowLink" (it is next to the download button) - does this make any difference? - Mike
