Etrex Summit goes crazy after downloading routes

I'm having a real problem downloading routes to my Etrex Summit.

I'm using memory-map to plot the route (< 50 waypoints) then send it to GPS. THe route transfers to the GPS, and everything is fine. I turn off the GPS and disconnect it from the PC. Now when I turn it on again, instead of acquiring the satellites, the screen has question marks (?) instead of the satellite icons. It never does lock on even after 15 mins. The only way out is a master reset, losing the route I have downloaded!

Anyone else seen this? Have I got a duff unit, or is this a problem with memory-map?

After a bit of searching I've found the solution to this.

My unit came with SW version 3.6. But there seems to have been a problem with this and an upgrade to 3.7 specifically addresses the "??" issue.

Well I have installed the latest version (3.7) and have been using it for a couple of weeks. Firstly the SW was dead easy to install. Secondly the unit works like a dream. No problems with "??", always finds the satellites and tracks under trees.

... just a shame that it was shipped with a duff version of SW
