Does the green light on the 720 turn itself off when the unit has been fully charged?

No it is simply a dumb indicator that the device is connected to an external power source, a tri state LED would have been much better but all we get is a dumb indication of pluged in or not - Mike

OK. So can we assume that a full charge only take 2hrs as stated in the manual? How do we know if TomTom is implying to a USB charge or a mains charge? Or will it take the same time?

Mine conked out running on battery the other day and I was greatly displeased and thought it hadn't been running that long - trouble is, it doesn't auto power off when I turn off ignition, so it could have lost a lot of charge through that.

Anyway, it's been in the cradle plugged into my PC all weekend, so it better just watch out! I use it plugged into ciggy adapter all the time though, so battery life isn't much of an issue for me.

You could look at the battery charge level indicator.... Cool

Just tap the area of the screen where the signal strength bars are.

Yeh, but that seems not to bo working correctly sometimes.. when the device will show the flashing icon with the red bar that the battery is low I plugged the charger in and I see about 70% battery charged green bar. So I wouldn't count on this indicator ;) or maybe it's just my device ;p
My one is in cradle all the time anyway ;)

i see mine about 3/4 into the green and will show battery light warning just a shame i've not the reactions of a coiled spring because i get about 2 second to plug in the cig adaptor before it turns itself off. I too always use the charger, but on a couple of occasions i have forgot to plug in after parking up and i find the unit runs about 45 mins. Why cant we get longer warning or why cant it be like my pda and go to an amber state. PDA also tells you amount of charge in unit as a % and aprox time left (ok Tomtom takes more out than the 10 hrs stated on a full charge but i still get about 4 hrs and running a bluetooth Holux sat reciever)
Think i made a mistake with this 720, if v7 comes out for PDA i'm gonna bin it
I'll just buy a FM transmitter from a BP garage for a fiver and use that in conjuntion with it.

Is this a standard "feature"? I just bought a 520 and get the same thing - warning light comes on, then within 5 seconds its turned off. Not much of a warning....

Same here on the 720. 5 seconds warning at most.
Waste of time....
