"The New N-series maps will be available from the 4th of December 2007.

These will cover eastern and western Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand"

Source, Navman UK

From another source, I understand that the Eastern European maps will contain many of the Balkan countries. My Christmas want list has been updated. Wink

Any idea if that may include the ICN7** models as they are almost the same devices.

Sorry, I don't. I am afraid I'm a bit selfish and only asked about my own system, mostdom. I did hear that mapping on the current, new S range has an accompanying DVD with a wide range of European mapping on it (for which of course you have to buy a access code to install) - maps for, such as, Croatia, Albania, Moldovia, Rumania etc.

It's actually a bit strange, as I emailed Navman Store to ask about this mapping and was told they knew nothing about new maps but to keep looking on the Store site. Subsequently, I heard from someone else at Navman who is a lot more clued up with the information posted.

Yes you are right, for the S-range is comes with locked mapping for all other areas, so unlocking means no lengthy downloads or mail order, just a purchase key

Would assume Navman are looking to rolls this sensible way of map distribution out for the other models too?

I assume the discs are only distributed as part of the purchase package when you buy the device? If you have one of these discs, could you say which Eastern European countries are listed on it Question Thanks.

Thanks Geepee, I'll post an e-mail in due course if I don't see anything on thier site soon.

I'm awfuly tempted by the new s90 but it's still a bit soon for an upgrade as the 750 is still working so well for me. Only a need for a new map or two.

It appears that on the DVD included with the S-Series is all available mapping, with either a locked or unlocked symbol with them, shopping trolley for the locked so you can purchase them via Navman and unlocked them

A quick check would suggest

Western Europe (unlocked)
Austrialasia (locked)
North America & Canada (locked)

Among the locked European counties are
Ukraine
Poland
Czech Republic
Slovakia
Hungary
Russia
Romania
...and others (if you have a specific just ask and I will check it out for you)

To answer your direct query, maps which appear on the DVD with a purchase shopping cart icon by them

Slovenija
Croatia
Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH???)
Serbia and Montenegro
Albania

So YES to all!

Don't know what happens when you purchase, presume it's just like with their speed camera database on there, you get emailed immediately a key code, which when entered allows you access to it

Thanks a lot. Yes, you get a code and install them via SmartST desktop. I've also been looking at a device that Lidls are selling this week which has 37 European (sic) countries pre-installed.

Cannot find the unit on the lidl website, but if its the Medion as Aldi sell, then while it may have detailed mapping, a friend of mine has one as I found its vocal direction limiting, it's text to speech sparse and on screen directions a lot to be desired (not very clear)

It's neither...it is the Becker traffic Assist Pro 7916; 17 languages installed; TMC; 2Gb SD card with pre-installed mapps for 37 European countries; Integrated MP3/WMA player; POIs; Choose profile for type of vehicle such as normal car, fast car, slow car, truck, motorcycle, bicycle or pedestrian; SIRFIII... Price is £189.99
It's freely available on the internet from other sources from about £280 upwards.

You're right I cannot find it on Lidls web pages but it has a full page spread in their catalogue.

All the usual countries plus Greece, Albania, BiH, Croatia, CZ, Macedonia, Romania, Hungary, Serbia/ Montenegro Slovenia etc...
Graham

Thats Navigon software and Navteq mapping

Downside is I think the 7916 has been out for a while and newer Becker units have just been released (hence the deal price?)

If its like the other Navigon product lines of the same age slowish menus and oldish map data otherwise really like the Navigon software and the becker unit build is good, and probably with a map update you won't go far wrong (anyone know what data comes with this unit? if its 2006 Navigon Navteq then I found lots of postcodes missing or not being found as the main cause for concern)

That caught my attention! I have a friend who is after a system that includes Greece. I keep telling him to wait as the only maps available only include Athens and not the whole of greece and the only sat nav that uses these maps is or was Garmin.

Can I now tell him something different? Idealy he wants a navman or tomtom.

No! The Greek mapping is around Athens only, I'm afraid. Crying or Very sad
