Hi all,
I have an 8 month old ICN 750 and am unsure if the battery is starting to fail as I appear to be getting battery drain when units not in use.
How long from fully charged should the battery last?
(turned off but battery slide is green - on)
From fully charged, 48 hours later battery level is down to 70%)
From fully charged it does not last 5 days turned off. Its lost all battery power.
Sorry not carried out working time check, will do next week.
Is it worth returning back to tesco?

You've just put the unit into suspend mode (power button on top), you haven't actually turned it off (small switch on the bottom), right?
When unit is in suspend mode it is not completely off, e.g. it still keeps memory powered up and refreshed, so it continues to use some power and some amount of battery drain is expected. However, even if you turned it off with the switch on the bottom, battery would still lose it charge over time.
Since you had your unit for 8 months now, depending on how you used and charged it, it is not completely unexpected that your battery performance has started to degrade (750 has hard drive so it's battery would get more exercise than 720's battery).
If you haven't switched your 750 at the bottom for a long time try doing that just to get software completely reset in case it got somehow confused, but I doubt it will help. |

TheM is right. Your battery issue is not uncommon though as my ICN750 does exactly the same thing. Even though I could do an extended journey with the device run only on it's battery, when I turn it off it will slowly discharge over time.
I would consider this a good thing though, because all battery operated electronic devices don't like to left fully charged for long periods, which can shorten the life of the bettery quicker. Discharging a bettery to almost empty before stowing away is regarded as good practice.

To be honest I do not use my unit much, but its good to know that its not overly faulty and not worthy of being returned as so.

Different type of batteries have very different characteristics and general advice like this is never true for all types. Not sure about 750 but it's probably a good bet that it uses Li-Ion batteries. For information about prolonging Li-Ion battery's life check out this article. |

But they do say that god is in the details, therefore general advise is true bar the specific details of the object in question. The page you have linked to basically agrees with the advise I have given, only differing on the exact numbers.
This general advise is how I have maintained all my electronic devices and I have never had any battery problems!

I was not so lucky -- have a small box full of older iPAQs and Palms with LiIons that are not completely dead and require US$60 battery each to revive because they were allowed to discharge and then left unused for a couple of years.
Probably the best advice regarding batteries is that once you discover that you don't use that device all that often it's best to pass it on to someone else rather than attempting to store it -- by the time you decide to give it a go again it will probably need new expensive battery. |

Pda's have always been a problem with me. I bought a toshiba pda a yonk ago and couldn't let it go even remotely flat as it would then loose ALL of its data. I couldn't believe it was entirely comprised of volatile memory, and had a life span of about 3 hours use. Since then I have lost my liking for them. A good phone can do all I need, together with a laptop!
Let's just say pda's are an exeption to the rule!
