It is possible to import TOMTOM POI files directly into COPILOT v7 without any editing.

Save the files into your memory card into the folllowing folder: \Storage Card\COPILOT\EU\SAVE

Then start copilot and the welcome screen will show a message stating that it is installing the updates. The pois will be in the the custom section of the POIs.

However the BMP icons are not showing at the moment and here is ALKs responce:

Unfortunately, BMP files are not currently supported in CoPilot 7 due to rendering issues. Because of this, for the time being, all custom imported POIs will have the standard push pin custom icon. We will continue to look into ways to resolve this, but at this time there is no estimated time scale for this.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I have saved some TomTom POI categories as stated and they show up in the "custom" POI. However, I now need to delete one of the four custom POI categories I have. Does any one know how I do this? I have CP7 on a T-Mobile MDA Vario3.
