I'm thinking of buying satnav and have more or less decided that the 520T is the right one for me, in terms of features. I was especially keen on hands-free/voice control, for safety while driving.

However, when I downloaded the user manual for extra clues, I began to have doubts about the so-called "hands-free" and so-called "voice control."

Can anybody tell me whether I've read the manual correctly on the following points...?

Firstly, when inputting a destination, it seems that I would have to press several buttons tpo arrive at a point where I could give voice input. Kind of defeats the object if so.

Secondly, I can't see any reference to hands-free phone dialling. It seems odd that the unit can manage my phone calls AND it can recognise spoken numbers (ie: for adresses) but does not combine these two features into a genuinely hands-free telephone function.

Any opinions?

I think your correct.

I've only had my 520 for the past 2 days, but what you have stated appears to be correct.

However, in my humble opinion, any 'voice activated' abilities are nothing more than a vague gimmick. Especially for something mounted on a car windshield. Way too much noise to be effective Even stationary (potentially - passing cars, wind, rain, ect)

Even with the unit an inch from my mouth it was having trouble translating my voice. I point you to the recent Watchdog investigation into the nintendo DS's ability to voice-recognise. Local Dialects and accents are just too difficult to crack.

The great thing about the TTG x20's ability to handle calls is that you can upload your phone book and see who is calling. No more fumbling for for the phone to see if you want to take the call or not - One quick touch of the screen to accept/reject - or just let it ringout into voicemail.

Voice recognition is at gimmick at best.
