Sorry to be sensible, but you'll have to advise me which way to vote, between Expensive and Something for myself.
You see, Vera and I don't get presents for each other or the kids at Christmas. Instead, we take everybody to Centerparcs at Longleat for a weekend in January. We've booked four villas, for 14 of us, just over £1,200. It saves us racking Vera's brain for gifts and works as our presents to each other too - we get a lot of pleasure out of having everybody around us, but not on top of us. They mostly go their own ways and we bump into each other during the weekend, apart from the two of us taking all the grandchildren for a meal first night there (no parents, their choice from the menu, no comments from us, burgers, chips, cokes, the usual disgusting junk food their parents criticise us for) and all getting together with several bowling lanes one night. _________________ Dennis

What a great idea!!
Christmas can be a bit chlostrophobic with all the family and kids around
...what a pity £1200 is such a large chunk of money, but then it depends what's included in the £100(ish) per head
We all go to my in-laws...about 15 of us for Christmas dinner - turkey, goose, duck & all the trimmings. My father-in-law is a chef and I love giving him a hand in the kitchen. Then after lunch my wife, sister-in-law & mother-in-law load the dishwasher and clear up while we have a rest. _________________ Andy

In january there will be 14 of us in the french alps skiing. We just couldn't find any other space big enough for all of us. Occasionally we might bump into each other after a few days. But we still get under each others skis as some of us arn't that good at skiing. _________________ Dom

Well there are certainly some good suggestions (and some not so good) however I think if I didn't give my 7 year old daughter (we were late starters) something for Xmas and took her to Center Parks or up the Alps, She would be miffed. A shocking pink Nintendo DS is what she wants (together with every item from every advert on TV). My mother and father in law (about the age of DennisN) want a Nintendo Wii (yes really), but 'er indoors hasn't mentioned a thing.
As for budget, well there isn't one. If whatever I get costs alot, I'll just have to issue lots of on-the-spot fines in the new year. Like a seat belt ticket.....£30 and you must pay it to the court within 28 days, or a special price of £20 if you pay me now, but I can't give you a receipt... _________________ Tommo...

It's funny that there have been 12 votes cast so far, yet there are only 9 posters and I didn't vote. Therefore if my arithmetic is good, 4 people have cast a vote, so have an opinion, but don't want to share it..
I can't quite get my head round these things..... _________________ Tommo...

Maybe your wife would like a Porsche or a Caribbean cruise
The sky's the limit...and the police are poorly paid?

...just do the £30 fine with no paperwork and everybody wins - until your superiors find out
In the past, you've always seemed to be such a officer of the law, but we're seeing your true colours now _________________ Andy

I didn't vote, as i didn't want to lie and my (possible) vote wasn't listed.
The sensible line is missing, as i stated in my first post. _________________ TomTom Go 60

GJF hasn't voted, I haven't voted, you haven't voted - brings the possible voting posters down to 6. Your wife apparently has 6 IDs for posting here, so take the hint that the biggest vote is for "Expensive".
What sort of pollster is it who can't even vote in his own poll? _________________ Dennis

Well I went for the expensive option (in the vote that is). Ann and I tend to make a list of things that we may like for Christmas. This tends to make it simpler for me, Ann just goes off and buys me whatever in any case! But she does have very good taste. However (and this is slightly alarming) she has started talking about getting a new car I hope she is buying this herself. _________________ Phil

Never mind Christmas presents, i've got my son (just turned 17) badgering me for a car and it's not Christmas yet.
He has already spent £100's on speaker systems and he hasn't got a car to put them in, or (small point to him) had one lesson yet. _________________ TomTom Go 60
