I have a TomTom One V2 Europe that I have had since they where first released, works perfectly although the maps are now out of date.
So rather than buying new Europe maps that are fairly expensive to update my One V2, I have been considering buying a 720 or One V3 Europe and selling My One V2. ( I need Europe maps for use on holidays)
The problem is that I have a device that works perfectly and never crashes etc, but all the new model TomTom devices appear to have many problems, so I dont know what to do.
I would like to stay with the TomTom brand if possible.
So is it safe to buy a TomTom product at the moment as I dont have time to faff around with new products that have not been tested properly before sale.
What has gone wrong with the TomTom brand in the last year or so?
thank you, Mark |

I would put up with the older maps for the moment, the alternative is to read the 720 advice on here, and try to understand which versions of TomTom Home and the Firmware you should use |

You can buy the latest Europe maps for about £70 (either download or on SD card). As your One v2 is totally reliable, I think that would be the obvious choice. You can upgrade your firmware to v7, so you would have the benefits of Mapshare and the other improvements in the new version

I agree with Robins suggestion, but would also add you should wait until you need the new maps, there is little point purchasing them now if you don't need them until next year for a holiday trip. A month prior to your departure have a look around at what is available in way of hardware and/ or maps for your existing unit, this will prove the most cost effective method to upgrade.
If you really want to go for a new device I would look at the One XL or 720 the new One Third Edition devices are only supplied with internal memory so future upgrades or the installation of a USA map would/ could be troublesome - Mike |

Since I last wrote, TomTom have released upgrade maps for Western Europe for £39.95. That makes staying with your existing hardware even more attractive
