Hope someone might be able to give me a little advice.
I’ve just bought a second hand TomTom Nav (Dell Axim X30).
I had noticed that the aerial connection wasn’t great after it was taking a little longer than expected to lock onto satellites. On inspection it appears that the aerial plug that connects to the dock has been changed at some point and the silver braid (earth??) doesn’t seem to be connected. The plug has 4 pins but only 3 are connected to the thin wires, am I right in assuming that the silver braid connects to the forth pin?? I didn’t want to connect it in case I done some damage. Embarassed
I tried a search on the net and also on here but couldn’t find an answer.

Thanks in advance!

Siversea, Welcome

as you look at it with the clip bit looking at you its :-
red,brown,orange,shield

Mine is hard wired in the car & it's pouring down at the minute !!

I'll have a quick look tomorrow & take a pic to confirm

Cheers

Tommy, thanks for the welcome and reply!

Am I correct in assuming that the shield is the thin silver braid? and this is connected to the thin pin connector inside the RJ11 connector?? Rolling Eyes

This is the one that is loose, I was a bit reluctant to connect it to the pin connector incase it was not originally connected at all and caused damage.

Thanks again for the assistance, its appreciated.

Siversea,

Yes the braided wire goes next to the orange wire.
I've tried to take a picture but it's too fiddly, plus the macro on my camera's no good
It looks like the braided wire has had a ferule attached before being put into the plug. Mine looks like it's hanging on by a thread !
Just looks like it could be soooooo fiddly to get it back in.

Good Luck
