|
|
Hello,
I need a new safety camera database on my iPAQ6915 running TomTom Navigator 6. The trial version supplied is out of date but works well with warning beeps, warning displayed with speed limit. If I pay my £19 will I get a database that provides the same features as TomTom's database for approximately same price. I've read/searched the forum but haven't seen an answer to this. Thanks. |

It won't be the same, it will be much better for the following reasons:
1 More accurate
2 Updated more frquently
3 Contains Mobile locations
4 You can use spoken alerts so the device will tell you audibly the type and speed of the approaching camera

Thanks for that. I guess it has the same type of warning using a speed limit sign. Do you know how frequenlty it's updated. Thanks |

The official line on updates is once per month, but most of the time it is every two weeks, there are options available so you will get an automated e-mail when the update occurs, or you can use the RSS feed to get notification, both methods require you to set them up but it is not difficult at all, just ask if unsure how to do this if you want automatic notification.
The icons that flash up on the screen do indeed indicate the speed and type of camera, you also have the option to set the unit up to give a verbal prompt for each of the camera types. When configured this way the device will issue a spoken alert something like ''Warning Gatso ahead, speed limit thirty miles per hour'' If you want just a simple bleep (like you have been used to) that is fine as the database can also be used with the inbuilt sounds - Mike |

I went for TomTom's package with Traffic Updates in the end - £19 for cameras and extra £15 for Traffic. On a trip to Oxford it picked out all the speed and traffic light cameras but did not specify type and whilst it usually ignored cameras for opposite way, it didn't always get this right. I'll see how I get on with it and its updates and may yet go for GPSWORLD solution. Thanks for the help. |
