Hello everyone - I'm new to these forums and would like to say hello and thanks in advance for any help.

I've moved into a consulting position and it requires a lot of commuting to different clients throughout the state. My old job let me keep my HP IPAQ hx2490b, and I was wondering what the best option is to make the device GPS enabled. It has Blue Tooth so I was thinking something like the Globalsat BT338 or the Holux GPSlim 240. Also, since it isn't a wireless softphone and only a PDA, what software would you recommend, since I couldn't use Google Maps Mobile or Windows Live and such.

Thanks for any help I get and so far I'm very impressed with the helpful content and reviews on this site and in the forums. Great job.

Hi

I have had several Ipaqs and used them for GPS navigation your device has a CF slot I sued a CF receiver with my 2110 and 2790

Had Tomtom6 myself and this is compatble with yourIpaq you can check on the tomtom
http://www.tomtom.com/products/features.php?ID=260&Category=2&Lid=1

I am selling my CF GPS receiver on Ebay at the moment. It works fine for me but now I have a Ipaq 5735 now wich is complete with GPS and tomtom software ( My Ipaq 2790 was stolen)

Either of the Bluetooth GPS units you mention are very capable devices, I would also examine the QStarz and iBlue units which can offer upto 30+ hours usage from a single charge if you want a Bluetooth GPS.

If you want to utilise the CF slot for GPS then the Holux GR-271 is a very good SiRF-III based device featuring a low power chip set, I found this consumed less power from my iPAQ-4700 than switching on the Bluetooth radio for a BT style GPS receiver.

As for software, what do you want it to do, in car useage navigation or off road or even walking using Ordnance Survey style maps - there are loads of different applications to choose from, it all comes down to what you want the unit to actually do - Mike
