Looking at a Garmin etrex Vista HCx.
For the track logs, typically how much will the internal memory store?

It's first use will be geotagging so the unit may be on for say 12 hours logging the route perhaps with a few waypoints added here and there.
Would this fill the internal memory quickly without it rolling over and saving over the older data?

Looking at getting a 2gb card but just wanted a rough idea on how room the tracklogs take up. Not yet sure on the recording level that would most suit as the most important thing is that it logs where the picture was taken and you are likely to be stood still for a time at that point anyway.

Thanks for any info
Paula

Comparing the Vista HCx with my Garmin 76 CSx, both store up to 10000 track points internally.

Looking at some of my logs ( I use Auto mode and Interval "More Often"), walking pace usually saves a point every 10 seconds, sometimes less, sometimes more.

Do the math and an hour will be about 360 points, so your 12 hours will use 4320 - less than half the internal storage.

You can also save the track log to the data card. Assume each point use 100 bytes, so 12 hours will use just over 400 kB.
