My Zycast SG-278 was working fine yesterday (linked via bluetooth to a PDA tomtom navigator), but since I've been fiddling trying to get it to connect to my PC and I think I've bricked it. The bluetooth bond is fine but it's not giving any output - GPS status is blank, nothing.

I've tried opening the serial port, and while I can write to it, the GPS is not responding with anything. Is there any way to reset it?

Welcome to the forum, what were you doing/ suing with the device when it went wrong? it is possible you might have put the unit in to SiRF mode rather than the NMEA mode needed. If this is the case it is easy to swap back, but I would like to know what software you have on the PDA before offering a solution - Mike

I am not really sure how it went wrong. Basically I was trying to get to work with Memory Map on my PC. I noticed at one point the GPS light stopped coming on, I am not exactly sure what I'd done prior to that, but some of the things I did:

* created bluetooth link to PC on COM1
* tried to hyperterminal into the GPS
* examined the COM1 port at a low level

The software on the PDA wasn't being used, it was while I was bonding via Bluetooth to my Vista PC

I had originally tried to connect over USB but I've lost my driver disc and the ZyCast website is shameful and has no support/drivers/manual.

You try These Instructions for using the PDA to switch the device back to NMEA if that is what is wrong - its certainly worth a try - Mike

For some reason that only has COM1, COM3, COM6, and COM7 selectable.

My Device is on COM8. If I select one of those ports I get 'the COM port could not be created'.

I think I'll cut my losses and buy a new one.

Any recommendations? Cheap and cheerful would be good.
