Just waiting for delivery of my new Tom Tom and obviously appreciate the need to do a full back-up of the system software and maps before doing anything else. From what I understand the Back-up you can do through Tom Tom Home is not without fault and the recommendation seems to be to do it using Windows Explorer. I'm an Apple Mac man - can anyone offer advice how I can achieve a full comprehensive back-up using an Apple Mac.

Thanks in advance for your advice

Can't you have a read and sort of, translate it to Apple Mac, Are the systems similar, copy/paste etc? You will also find the other "How To's" usefull on the link.

I did this when I got mine:

Plugged in Tomtom
started Terminal (/Applications/Utilities)
typed 'tar cvfz ~/tomtom_orig.tgz /Volumes/TomTom\ Disk'
(not sure of pathname for Tomtom disk - do ls /Volumes to check)

This creates a compressed tar file of the contents of the Tomtom, called tomtom_orig.tgz in your home directory.

Thanks Turnip2

I'm being a bit of a luddite here, I more-or-less understand the path you're explaining at what point do I need to fill in the path name of the Tom Tom?

Another thing, am I able to just do a comprehensive back up of the Tom Tom by just using the finder and dragging it's contents onto the desk-top or am I likely to miss "hidden file"?

Cheers

That's what I did. I don't think there are any hidden files. Just drag and drop. Done. (And burn it to disk in case your computer dies!)
