My 300 came from Benelux, and was/is pre-loaded with V8 of the Benelux mapset.

I've since bought a V9 update unlock code and installed that mapset, except for Benelux, which I don't have room for, or indeed have any need for. I should further explain that I used the Nuvi's internal drive to install the UK mapset, and an SD for a subset of the European.

No real problem with having that old version, but from time to time, the Nuvi pops up a reminder that the V8 mapset is old and should be updated, even though I've deselected it on the Map info screen.

How may I either remove that mapset (preferred solution), or remove any reference to it please?

Cheers

Derryck

I'm not sure I would recommend removing those maps - they will be the primary maps, whereas any additional maps (in your case v9 UK and other parts of Europe) will be stored as supplementary maps. I've no idea if these will still work without a primary map.

The correct action depends on exactly what you bought - if you bought a v9 upgrade, then simply use it to upgrade the built in maps to v9 - ie replacing the v8 ones with v9 ones. If you bought a v9 map, and not an upgrade, then I'm not sure how best you could sort it out (I can think of a few tricks to try, but I'm nervous of stating them as they have great potential to turn your unit into a paperweight).

I would image that as your unit came pre-loaded with Benelux V8 you need to upgrade Benelux to V9 (Base Map). All other Countries such as UK are supplementary maps.

I suggest you call Garmin support for their advice if you want to change the base Country from Benelux to the UK

I don't think Derryck wants to change the base mapping from Benelux to the UK, but if he does a simple upgrade of the basemap to v9, the warnings will go away.

However, if he has a v9 DVD, and not a v9 upgrade DVD, he may find it difficult to achieve the upgrade.

That's what I imagined would happen, from my reading of the forum. I simply don't want that country's coverage because of storage restrictions. I do have the upgrade DVD though, so could do that if the message becomes more annoying (I'm thinking of my wife, who's not a technophile at the best of times).

Perhaps I should re-organise what I have installed - whilst I don't have any problem with hacking, I'd rather not run any risk of bricking this life-saver! But just in case, if there's a link to something then I'd like to take a look.

Thanks, all.

Cheers

If you have the v9 upgrade DVD, then by running the upgrade process will replace the v8 Benelux mapping with v9 Benelux mapping, which means it will only take up slightly more space than before. This will get rid of the warning message, and also fix a couple of problems linked to postcodes and traffic data (they don't like mismatched map versions installed).

I would recommend taking a full backup of the unit, and then trying the upgrade.
