I don't class myself as European, I'm English and support those Scots and Welsh who want their independance, they can even introduce border controls if they wish and use whichever measurement system they prefer.

Hitler wanted a United Europe and it's creeping in via the back door.

Anyone who went to school post 1972 (ish) will have been bought up with metric and anything else is rubbish to them, so metric is the only system they will use.

I wasn't bought (sic) up with it, and I went to school post '72. Mind you, I went to school pre '72, too. Like others here, I'm bi (in this instance) and have taught my children some of it, too. It's funny hearing one of the kids ask for the loan of ten bob.

I think we should force the imperial system on the world and get rid of that Napoleonic tosh. They'll be having us driving on the wrong side of the road next! Oh, and get the Yanks to serve full pints, not 4/5ths of one. Cheapskates.

Then one language and it'll be 'Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuhrer'.

OK you young'uns, go to the library and get 'Mein Kampf' and have a good read. (I have).

Then consider the direction the unelected Fuhrer's in charge of the EU are taking us. (I have).

Then come to a conclusion. (I have).

we just took an extra long tea break.

My dad, along with many others, never had a chance to take an extra long tea break, as he was killed in action aged 26 near Caen in June 1944, fighting against a United Europe (Hitler's baby), leaving a wife and 51 week old son. On one of my visits to the cemetary there were a number of old soldiers having a reunion and I overheard them chatting about the War and EU. They looked across the 3000+ graves and said, with tears in their eyes, 'What a waste, what a waste'.

Travel several miles further on and you'll find a US cemetary with over 12000 graves.

If the people back then had had the same attitude as the pro EU people do now, the world would be a very different place.

......and we would be speaking German

BUT if you speak to people on the ground, there were a lot of Germans, French et al who were against the Euro

The problem is too many UNELECTED commissioners who we can't get rid of if we don't like what they do...jobs for the boys - where do all our unwanted politicians get moved on to...mmmmm EU Commissioner jobs

Absolutely! Pretty much all of the civilized world uses metrics, let's put these archaic weights and measures in the dustbin of history where they belong.

Why can't the spineless British government just bite the bullet and make the switch. Chuck these stupid "metric martyrs" in jail while they are at it. Why on earth have they only done half the job? It's just bizzare.

Fluently by now and we'd also be metric and have a single currency.

Sieg Heil

Hitler may be dead but the leaders of the EU appear to be following the doctrine of Mein Kampf.

Quote:

Against the peoples wishes? Ah, Mein Kampf.

Keep spouting lies or half truths and eventually people will believe it. (Mein Kampf).

The Global Warming saga, it's all our fault, our individual carbon footprints are too large, we've all got to save the planet, so more legislation and taxes because of an unproved science. It was predicted this year would be one of the hottest on record. Oh dear, and they expect me to believe they can predict 50 or 100 years from now.

Back to the main subject. So should we keep 60 seconds, 60 minutes, 24 hours, 7 day week, 28, 30 or 31 day months, 365.25 day years, 360 degrees in a circle etc. or change them to a metric system?

Ok guys, off topic or not, this is in danger of becoming unpleasant. Let's keep the rather silly Third Reich rhetoric where it belongs and the same goes for the psuedo swearing.

if I remember correctly, don't you come from somewhere near where we used to ship people like this? Wink

The trouble is that you can't please all of the people all of the time, but at least we're not as bad as the Irish who, at one time, had some signs in metric and others in imperial to really confuse the hell out of people.

...and if it wasn't for all the money they got from the EU then they would probably have been more reluctant to switch as well.
