Hi Everyone,

I want to add some POI from pocketgpsworld for my TomTom One V2 (New Edition).

Question i want to know is can i download as many categories i want without my tomtom crashing etc?

Also when i download categories/sub cateories will they go in the already existed categories on my TT or will each sub categorie i want to download create its own main categorie?

Hope this dont sound to confusing.

Thank you,
M.Russell

You are limitted to 100 Custom POI Categories - each ov2 file counts towards the 100 limit, exceed this number and some of the POI files will not appear on the device even though you can see them with Windows Explorer - Just be careful with the POI files you download, use the "Combine subcats" function to reduce the individual file count, Fuel stations for eaxample, does it matter who owns the pump, BP, Shell etc? - put the whole lot in a single ov2 file - Mike

Hi,

Thanks for your reply but i am still a tad confused.

Let me explain:

For example:

I have select the Shopping Supermarket Category and selected just 5 stores from that category and i also download them as "Separate files per subcategory" how many categories does that count as??

Is it classed as just 5 categories, am i rite in thinking that?

Reason why i am asking question like this is because it will be the only way i will understand it completely

Thank you,
M. Russell

As you have selected seperate files each category will have created a seperate ov2 and coresponding bmp file, so these will count as 5 from your limit of 100 (95 still to go at).
The Combine as Sub Cat option (when used) provides a single ov2 file and bmp file that would contain all five (upto a maximum of 22) categories in a single ov2 file so it only counts as one leaving you 99 still to go - Mike

This MapShare is becoming a problem, I now have 58 of the things, which when you add on the PGPSW Speed related category for the UK as well as the European ones and another 5 of your own take you over the 100 limit.
Have already removed all the PMobile category from both but still have 116.

Has anybody worked out which of the over 100 TomTom will ignore?
Would it be the last 16, the first 16 or just a random selection?

Surely this is not an hardware issue where you can only install 100 custom POI.

surely TomTom could make a fix for this, mine to is also removing POI and speed camera files so i decided to remove all custom POI and just use tomtom ones until this issue hopefuly be sorted.

Well, I wouldn't hold your breath. This has ALWAYS been an issue.

v5 software only allowed 39 custom POI categories (and on one variant it dropped to 24!).

v6 and v7 both allow 100, but with the introduction of Mapshare, TomTom in their wisdom are using ov2 files to handle the automatic updates of the built-in POIs (one ov2 file for each category).

What I suggest people do for now, is ONLY enable downloads of the categories you REALLY want updated, so as to leave as many "slots" for your own POIs.

As for which ones go missing... it is a random selection, not necessarily the first or last to get loaded.
