Having returned my 2nd faulty 720 for a refund, I have decided to buy an alternative model without all the "bells and whistles" of the 720.

Essential requirements:

- Western Europe maps
- Ability to upgrade to North America maps
- Decent battery life (3hrs +)

Desirable requirements

- Bluetooth connection for traffic
- Mapshare

Any suggestions ?

TT One Europe XL (add the US maps onto an SD card) or an older style TT ONE europe (Not XL) that has an SD card slot. Both may not have mapshare now but will have it shortly when the software is upgraded.

Thanks.

Does it have a 3hr+ battery life? Looking at some reviews it looks more like 1-2hrs.

Not sure about that but it's the backlight that eats the battery - turn it down and it will increase battery life.

Is there a website that compares sat nav products side by side, so that you can see at a glance what the features are??

I hoped that the TomTom side would do this, but it doesn't... I think...

Any ideas please??

I think I want TomTom (the wife sure does!)
...and is there one that reroutes you, based on traffic?

cheers,

The TomTom ONE Europe XL does not have an SD card slot, so you can't add US maps to it.

according to the info on the TT site:

The comparison info on there states that the TT One XL has built in storage of 1gb, AND an SD card slot...

Surely, that is incorrect????????? Maybe the red X is supposed to be there, and not the 1gb?

Its the other way round, I think the red "X" shouldn't be there......

As the TomTom ONE XL Europe version has European map pre-installed on 1 GB internal memory, does it have an SD card slot/spare internal memory to allow for other maps to be used /downloaded on it ?

Yes. The funny part is that the internal flash and SD card work independently of each other. So when an SD card is inserted, the internal flash memory is ignored. This is handy when using multiple maps. (but the TomTom OS needs to be installed on each SD card)

To confirm the One XL Europe version does have 1GB of inbuilt flash memory AND an SD card slot, you can only use one or the other though, the SD card cannot be used to supplement the onboard memory. Please see the review Here for further details - Mike

I don't know if you've made a decision yet, but TomTom is giving away a ONE. Today is the last day for the contest...
