Has anybody yet confirmed if the 3rd edition will support 3rd party POIs, particularly the PGPSW speed cameras _________________ TT Go Essential |

Yes PGPSW speed cams working ok along with spoken warnings, also loaded the National trust POI's they are ok.
Tried loading the "Visit Britain" POI's using the method described from Tom Tom Press site.
but Tom Tom home say's it can't find a map to use so I just copied and pasted them into map folder on unit and all works ok.
I am using version 1.5 of Tom Tom Home which identifies the TTONE V3 as a 720 consequently the menus are slightly diferent but maybe when the new version of home is released that will be fixed?

Keith
hmmm Just checked all the documents and unit but can't find any mention of which map provider.
If I find it I will let you know.
Cheers

Thanks for that. Unfortunately I think it's Navteq maps that cover the Channel Islands, and which TomTom had been using for the earlier One versions _________________ TT Go Essential |

Not done 3rd party speed camera POI as it seems my new unit comes with a 12 month sub to Tomtom's own update site. As for other POI's, I got lots from here with no problems at all |

The TA maps don't cover the Channel Islands, only the Europe version of the earlier One device had the Navteq map for this area, for an idea of what the One Third Edition is about have a read of This Post - Mike |

Was just about to buy a One Uk or EU, but at a later date, want the USA maps. Can this still be done ?- presumably by backing up the unit first, deleting maps then adding in the USA ones - than reverting to the Uk/EU backup? Tomtom site isn't clear about this on the Version 3. |

answered my own question (i think). The tomtom site has a manual for the 3rd edition, and mentions doing a backup, manually deleting maps and installing new maps. looks like I need the EU version with its 1gb memory, same as the USA version if i get the USa maps later (or perhaps the price in the USA will be so low next year I just buy a usa tomtom!) |

Just bought the 3rd edition...used it...then returned it.
Reason... No facility to add/edit personal POIs.
This is a major downgrade not mentioned in the sales bumf..
Also Map Share? Open to all sorts of problems if you trust other users (which you must if the system is to make any sense at all)
You can close motorways and delete/rename entire cities if you want to have fun!
Trusting TomTom approved changes only is the same as its ever been...and they (teleatlas) don' t ever seem to correct their maps..
I have now bought the 2nd edition which, so far, is fine.
Similar to my GO 300 which crashed terminally when I tried to update it with 'Home' |

In addition to the above..
3rd edition has no memory card slot...another major drawback.
For only a few pounds more (or same price) you can have the 2nd edition (Regional or Europe) and avoid all the problems.
I would suggest 'Map-share' needs to be proven useful before investing in it..
Regards..

As TomTom have supplied a device with a cripled menu structure and limited functionality I would not be surprised to see more of these taken back to the shop for this very reason. You can enable the menu options they (TomTom) have hidden by installing a custom menu, see the post I linked to earlier in this thread for some instructions on how to do this.
Once sales are affected though it would be ecconomic stupidity to keep the device in this configuration, perhaps a new software version can fix the hidden menu properly - Mike |

In fairness you do have several "trust" options:
Only use changes you've made yourself
Only trust those verified by TomTom
Trust those from "trusted sources"
Trust those reported by "many"
Trust those reported by "a few"
Admittedly we don't know exactly what "many" and "few" mean (and who is a "trusted source?), but there should be enough options there for you to feel safe and still get some improvements |

I'm buying via the tesco insurance deal, so I don't have flexibility in the version i get. I'm confused about there being no custom Poi's as the 3rd edition manual on the website has a section about them and shows them on the screen shots. I need Poi's as it's the main reason for getting the thing in the first place. So I have to buy an LX now :/ what started out as a low cost device is suddenly looking very pricey. |
