Will be interesting to see - don't forget to not only delete the Direction, but also the DirType. I left the commas in place. Example below:

X,Y,Type,Speed,DirType,Direction
-2.17787,50.68304,1,40,,
-2.09933,50.70722,1,30,,

Finally were geting somewhere; i changed the direction of 3 mobile sites that i couldnt get to work (I changed them manually on the sat nav unit by clicking on each camera in turn) now they all work great!

Each camera gives me an audiable beep on a approach to the cameras then it stops when ive past them (it does this even if am under the speed limit).

So what is the final fix for this?

Can this be fixed by someone form the Site so that a new download can be updated for the next release?

Also do you have to install the camera icons into the same file as the gps database in order to get the spped warning icon appear on the screen when you are sppeeding on approach to a camera?

Again thanx 2 everyone who has & is helping with this problem! Cool Laughing

Glad to hear it worked!

As for a solution:

In the short term - a bit of fiddling in Excel (happy to help if anyone needs it)
In the long term - hopefully someone from pgpsw will see this and make some changes to the database - don't know if there's a formal way to request it??

MaFt has been "on assignment" at IFA 2007 but I'm sure he'll deal with it when he's had a chance to catch up.

Paul

"By importing the file into excel or openoffice calc (as a comma delimited text file), deleting the data in the last two columns, saving it as a text file and uploading again - it seems to work every time! Just tried it out and cameras which I didn't get a warning for are now popping up every time.

Make sure that the lat/long positions in the first two columns are not being rounded to two decimal places as openoffice seemed to do - else cameras appear out of position on the map!"

how do you import the file into excel?[/b]

This works for me to. I wrote a small vb program to rewrite the text files. I think the problem could lie with accurracy of the gps as some of the cameras around me come up on the wrong side of the road. I also noticed that I get a different warning if I am over the speed limit approaching a camera to the sound I get if i am within the speed limit.

I have since found a script file called speedcam.ui under a igo directory in data.zip on my myguide3100.

It contains this line as well as others

'script sc_edit_existing_speedcam'
poi_get_speedcam_params nCamType nCameraSpeed nCamHeading nCamDirectionType nCamOnScreenHeading nCamSpeedUnit

This seems to indicate that there are more parameters then
X,Y,Type,Speed,DirType,Direction

ie screenheading and camspeedunit
Perhaps these would make a difference if we knew what values to try

Question

I've just changed the files on mine too - will use the unit tomorrow to drive to Newcastle and back (from Fife). This will take me past around 30 cams ......... so it should be a good test.

It's a shame that I will get a warning from each cam going both ways, but better that than nothing.

Thanks to all for the fix.

Cheers.

To import database into Excel and delete dirtype and direction info:

Open Excel
File, open
From the file type drop down at the bottom of the screen, choose text file.
Find the speed camera database and click on it
Click Open
Click Next (delimited should be selected by default)
Tick 'Comma'
Finish

Columns A - F now have data in them.

Leaving the top row alone, delete the rest of the contents of Columns E and F by highlighting all the relevant cells and pressing delete on the keyboard.

File, Save As, Choose csv comma delimited.

Give the file a name.
Click Yes to keep the data in this format. File Exit - no to saving changes (you already have!).

In windows explorer you will need to change the file extension to .txt from .csv

Upload the new file to the device. Hey presto!

Find the file in My Computer, if you can see the extension (i.e. .csv) right click on the file, and select rename - then overtype with a suitable file name, ending in .txt

If you cant see the extension, click tools, folder options, view
then untick 'hide extensions for known file types'.

Cheers

Just as an addendum to Paul's excellent work here, I discovered that the CSV export function on my two copies of Excel, (Excel 2000 and Excel 2003) failed to place the null fields at the end of each row in the file. So I got the first 14 rows correctly with a double comma (,,) at the end, but for some reason the remaining 11-odd thousand didn't have them. Obviously the MyGuide didn't parse the text files correctly into its internal database format.

My solution was to replace the final two columns we are trying to get rid of with some spurious text, e.g., abc and xyz and do the export again.

Now rename the CSV to TXT and open it in Wordpad. (I know Notepad is preferable, but the search and replace feature is too slow). Now do a Find and Replace for all instances of "abc, xyz" to ",". Save and upload to the MyGuide. Repeat for the mobile database, and upload that.

Hope this helps anyone struggling.

cheers

Anthony

I have put the file I wrote to convert the text file on rapidsghare. It simply rewites the file to a new file starting with con. No frills or error checking. I hope allowed to put his link on this forum first time of trying. Feel free if it's on any use or makes life easier.

sorry - have been away and just picked up on this.

file format has now been amended to reflect the 'dirtype' and 'direction' values.

please redownload the database to confirm it is now correct for you.

cheers

MaFt

ps - feel free to add heading / direction data via the map on the submission page!!
