Newbie.

After checking with TomTom support re compatibility, just bought the DVD version. Says on the box that its compatible with Mio 168. This has TeleAtlas mapping.

Installed OK, registered and activated OK, appears to fire up OK on the Medion, but can't get past the menu option to input my HOME address. The PDA just locks up, and or slows down to a very slow crawl.

Gut feeling is that its a memory prob. But UK & NI live on a Kingston Elite 2Gb SD card with no additional progs running. Adjusting ram to favour programs has no effect.

But I do have SPB's Plus desktop installed to pretty things up on the Medion. Could this be the problem? TTN6 starts like a hare then slows down like a tortoise. However, CopilotL6 and Medion Navigator 5 (NavTeq) run faultlessly as does the older Medion Navigator 4.2 which has TeleAtlas mapping, all removed to make way for TTN6.

I believe the PDA is otherwise healthy as I'v got a couple of 90 minuite videos suitably converted for the PDA that run faultlessly along with a couple of albums of photos with about 3 CDs worth of mp3s that i play on the built in mp3 player, courtesy of Medion.

Anyone had a similar experience? Any ideas why TTN6 won't go past "Enter your home address NOW..."

Help appreciated.

Medion MD95000, Win Mob 2003.

TomTom does normally run well on mio 168.
Have you tried a different SD card?

Yes, Crucial HS 1 and 2Gb and Sandisk 1 AND 2Gb. Same result. This is really frustrating. Haven't tried formatting SD in FAT16 or 12(floppy).

Using Fat32 as supplied with WinXP Pro, to format SD cards.

Do you think this may be the answer?

What is confusing is that everything else runs absolutely fine. Get the feeling that TTN6 doesn't like something already installed. Will try uninstalling Sbp Plus next and formatting in Fat16.

Will post on the result. Would Win Mobile 2003 SE make a difference?

Meanwhile, all and any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

According to this you should never use non-SD specific tools to format SD cards
http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/sd_formatter.html

Try the formatter at the bottom of that page.

I'm happily running TomTom v6.03.8320 along with v6.75 UK/IE/WE 1409 maps on my Mio 168. The maps are on a Sandisk Extreme III 1GB card but I have also used another slower branded card with no noticeable slowdown. I also have plenty of other apps running like Spb Pocket Plus, Time and they don't have much impact. As long as I keep my POIs to a minimum, everything runs smoothly.

As for formatting my cards I used WinXP in FAT16 mode because FAT32 didn't work at all for some reason. I might try that popular Storage Tools PPC app at some point though because I want to buy a 4GB card. Kingston cards are supposed to work fine with the Mio 168.

That's probably the key - deactivate (deselect) ALL POIs on your unit and see how it performs. Having large numbers of POIs enabled really hammers TT.

Editted to add... Kingston Cards do work fineon the 168.

Before parting with your money for a 4GB Card for the Mio 168, be aware that originally Mio stated a 2GB was the maximum it would take, further down the line and they changed it to 1GB. The maximum transfer rate for the 168 was/is 133x.

I am pretty certain that sd cards should only be formated with fat16, i am running tomtom 6 quite happy on the mio168 using various cards including kingston and other non known names upto and including 2 x 2gb x 150 only ever formatted to fat16

The SD specific formatter tools format 4GB ones as FAT32 which work fine in my PDA and in a TT510
May not work in the Mio though.

Detailed below is part of a "test and working" chart from the www.clove.co.uk website selling memory cards that said the Transcend 4GB SDHC cards work with the Mio 168. Confusingly though a few of the Mio 168 clones only support 2GB and the RS version is also stated as 2GB. Hmmm.....

I suppose you could partition a 4GB card into two 2GB partitions, providing the card is recognised by the Mio 168.

You should bear in mind that the mio os is wm2003 or wm2003se if upgraded, I would imagine that this is the limiting factor to reading fat16

My PDA is wm2003SE and works ok with FAT32 SD (4GB non-HC) cards.
As does my mate's Medion.
Isn't FAT32 supposed to be backwards compatible anyway?

HC-SD compatibility is a completely different thing though and probably does need OS upgrade.

Many thanks to everyone for the helpful advice.

Currently in limbo because of building extensions.

Will return once I have had a go with all suggestions.

Find the advice about using the correct formatter very interesting.

Although I've had no problems using the XP FAT 32 formatter so far, have not tried a 4Gb SD(HC) card as yet because I believe that there is a limit on file size and formatted capacity with WM2003 similar to the limitations in Win 98x.

Is this correct?

2Gb Crucial(Micron), Sandisk, Kingston high speed cards all work fine. It's only TOM TOM that's the problem.

Thanks again, All.

Hi All,

Many thanks for the helpful suggestions.

During a lull in the building work I discovered that the Medion MDPPC150 that I am trying to load TTN6 onto has a MDWWER02F code when soft reset. This is accompanied by a Medion GPS spash screen.

Anyone know what version of WM2003 this is?

I am told that I need MDWWER22 at least to get TTN6 to run.

Is this true?

If so, it looks like I will have to lash out on a Mio 168 or something newer to be able to run TTN6.

Why doesn't TomTom state the minimum OS code required in order to run their software?

Although they do list a PDA compatibility table, it would save any amount of hassle in the first place if they listed the OS codes.

MDWWER22 is wm2003 first edition, and certainly does run ttn6 but without landscape mode, you need WWer27 which is wm2003se i.e second edition and brings back landscape mode in the OS which was removed in ttn6, wwer27 is slightly faster than 22, but hardlt noticable, the MDPPC150 is upgradeable and both files can be found here at http://home.scarlet.be/lataupe/ if you have any problems pm me i have have the file buried somewere and can send you tutorial on upgrading of you want if you cant find enough info there
