I have looked at the specs for the Nuvi 250 & 350 and it seems that the basic differences are that the 250 does not have things like - saying street names, playing mp3's, book player etc plus no charger & less battery life. Is the actaul Sat Nav part as good or not or are there other differences that would affect the performance as my main priority is the Sat Nav part

Finaly, how does it compare to an i3

I'd say the performance difference if any would be minimal. I have to say that the spoken street names is a pretty good feature. There was a many a time with my I3 where it would direct me to the third exit of a roundabout, where if it had said "take 3rd exit to A41", I would not have taken the third exit into a car park or something.

The MP3 and Book player are ok. I have to admit on business trips it's been good having a portable mp3 player with built in speakers.

In terms of raw Sat Nav, I think that there is very little difference between an I3, Nuvi 250 and Nuvi 350. They'll all use the same maps, navigation algorithms, etc. You'll get faster GPS reception with the nuvis as they have a better antenna. The touch screen is better for data entry.

If you don't need full europe maps I'd look at the 310. My experience with the TMC system has not been good, so I wouldn't bother with a T or D version, unless you really want it.

Just to add to Adrain's points; two other difference are that the 200 series Nuvis have brighter screens than the 300 and the 200s have an internal aerial whilst the 300s have a flip up external aeriel.
