In a few weeks time I'm partaking in a trek across Europe (Calais to Rimini) in aid of charity. I want to record our route and be able to put it on our website. Either in realtime or every night once we have internet access.

I had planned on capturing the data on a laptop with either a USB GPS receiver or a Garmin unit with data cable.

Has anyone expereience of anything similar? Or any other suggestions?

A pda might be more suitable than a laptop on such a trip. What mode of transport are you using?

Think about a garmin Hand held (cx60), or Bluetooth reciever with a data logger - no need to have the laptop running continously then.
