I can't stand the cheap flimsy suction cups that come with GPS kits. They occassionally fall off in extreme temperatures because they're really temporary. So I got one of these more rugged cradles:

The question is, how do I mount this on my dashboard? I want the mount to be solid, but I don't want to do too much damage when I have to remove it before selling the car. I thought drilling a few holes wouldn't be too bad.. but most folks are saying an adhesive would leave less of an eye sore. I'm tempted to try Auto Goop, but the package says it could damage the finish; and I'm not sure how easy it will be to remove it.

Better options?

Are there any solvents that won't destroy my plastic dashboard, but will solve auto goop / silicon?

Get a Brodit Pro Clip that matches your vehicle and the actual position you want the mount fitted, then screw the holder to the Pro Clip. Neat installation with no damage at all to the vehicle - Mike

Great suggestion! I ordered one (of a different brand). Brodit seems to be uncommon in the US, and their design for my car blocks the vent. I'll be installing this one (made by Panavise):
