My sandisk 512mb card damaged my 720's memory permanently
The SD card slot and the Flash memory would both be controlled by the CPU. I don't see how the SD card could do such a thing itself.
More likely to have just failed of its own accord I'd have thought

Btw Mymemory are offering a 2Gb (x133 rated) SD card for a £10'er + P&P at the moment and Play.com are offering a similar card for £10, VAT & P&P inc.
I bought one of those My Memory 2GB cards and it appeared to work very well, but occasionally TomTom would freeze and the only cure was to format the card and reload my backup. It would then work fine for two or three weeks before crashing once again.
I exchanged it for a SanDisk Ultra III and have never had the problem since (about 7 months).
I subsequently used the My Memory card in my digital camera, and have lost a few frames, also one or two others have had a blue strip across the bottom covering about 10% of the frame.
I'm sticking to SanDisk Ultra III from now on - they are not much more expensive
