Does this unit require a Garmin special / custom USB lead? I've tried to connect the unit to the PC using a "standard" cable but the unit does not switch to Mass Storage Device mode, it just starts charging from the USB hub, and neither does the PC react to the pressence of the Garmin. The same cable works fine with other USB devices and a Tomtom GO 300. Any help appreciated! |

I'm not familiar with the 250w, but on the 310, there is a USB connector on the unit itself, and one on its cradle. Only the connector on the unit allows access to it - the one on the cradle just charges.
Assuming (a) the 250w has a cradle and (b) there are two connectors, this may apply to the 250w as well |

The 250w does not appear to have any connectors on the cradle, only on the device itself, which is the one I am plugging my USB lead into... Thanks for the suggestion tho, appreciated |

I also have a Streetpilot C510, whose USB connector packed in a few weeks after I bought it. Garmin swapped the unit for me (just cost me the return postage).
You could always try another cable first, if you can lay your hands on one. AFAIK, there's nothing special about them - the ones I'm using aren't the (supplied) Garmin ones. |

Sorted it!
For some reason, the Nuvi doesn't like being connected to the PC via my powered hub, when it's connected direct to the PC USB port, it comes up in Mass Storage mode with no problems. Strange, but at least we know for next time!
Thanks again for the input. |

With my 660 you also need to use the GARMIN supplied lead - other USB to mini-USB cables (and I have tried 10+) don't seem to work. _________________ Phil |
