I just ordered a 910 from pixmania and i was told it was repackaged by tomtom and has the full 2 year warranty, i have a couple of worries about this and they are, if it has an old out of date map/software will tomtom give me a free upgrade also they say its not refurbished but why would it need to be re packed?

thanks in advance

ps i did a search but couldnt find anything

Nick

The usual guess - somebody took it back for a refund, for some reason which was good enough to get them a refund.

It could be perfectly OK. It could be a real clanger. Who knows?

Perhaps you'd be best off asking these questions of Tom Tom, particularly the map update. Ask how you'd go about getting it (proof of purchase? etc).

well the 2 year tomtom warranty is good enough for me, even if it is a clanger. but that would be a bit of a worrie if it had to go back all the time aye,

Pixmania 8O . I wish I had read comments on the internet before dealing with them. If everything is OK they are fine but if something is faulty and under warrenty, well that's a different story.

Not at all, I've not had repackaged anything that I can think of. It was a bit jokey and a bit serious really.

Having been a supporter of the secondhand market in my youth, I have now come to the place where I find myself either finding the cash to buy new - with guarantees etc, etc, or not buying someone else's discards. I can only remember why I used to trade things in - think about it - certainly NOT because I was happy with them. Wink

However, I should be more considerate of others - not everyone can afford the same indulgences which I do - But I'm by no means rich, just selective about where I chuck my money away - some men have mistresses, I have fallen for satnavs. (I've been hiding my new GO720 away from my daughter all day - she commented on me having two on the coffee table, neither of which was the 720!! Thank goodness she's gone off now to Cornwall, so I can get it out and play to my heart's content). Otherwise, I'm a sad old pensioner - don't smoke any more and get the runs rather than vomit when sipping the amber nectar!

Note for pgpsw - Can we have a new emoticon for sad old man please? Or at least, a pair of soft slippers?

Thanks dennis, im a bit the same to be honest, when it comes to dvd's i will not buy them off the dvd man (everyone has seen one of them) i wait till i can get a genuine copy that has desent sound/picture.
as pixmania said that they are not refurbed units but just re packaged i hope it will be ok also iv seen graded ones kicking about and i didnt want one of them as the seem to be scratched or broken in some way, alot cheaper but you get what you pay for, one of the reasons i went for the one from pixmania was no one had any in stock, i wont pay people like halfords/argos as they are just too expencive for my taste, some are around £100 dearer than anyone else. also i wouldnt buy off the ebay seller selling them cheaper than pixmania as it was unclear where the seller was, it said item located in briton uk but the seller was registered in the states, i was worried about warranty as its an import. as pixmania said i get a 2 year warranty from tomtom it should be ok. they say they are repacked by tomtom.

I can only wish you good luck, Nick. It really is a decent bit of gear.

It might be one that I returned because I thought it was faulty - I sent back three 910s which wouldn't select a postcode in Holland - BEFORE I discovered that you can't do that unless you're in Holland! Embarassed Embarassed (so much for your expert advisers in Halfords, Currys and PCWorld).
Another I sent back because the man said I needed to do a reset and I said "You gotta be kidding? Brand new unit one day old and you're telling me to do a reset?" Embarassed Embarassed I tell people all the time to do resets nowadays, without thinking much of it. Rolling Eyes
