Hello All, I'm a newbie at this GPS game, and need some advice.
Can someone advise me on the the best solution for recording GPS points on my motorbike as I drive around town. I i want to be able to press a button every time that I need a place point recorded for later uploading to my pc for a map overlay. Is this possible? what is the best solution for this type of thing. it needs to have good battery life, waterproof and ease of use. 1 button recording is ideal. I'm based in Manchester, UK.
regards all

I don't know of any normal sat navs where it is one button press (or screen tap) You usually have to have at least a couple of taps just to get into the menus.
On the TomTom units that I am familiar with the least number of presses would be four:
1. Tap the normal navigation screen to get the menu
2. Tap "Add Favourite"
3. Tap "2nd page"
4. Tap "GPS position"
If you were desperate you might be able to re-arrange the menu to put the "GPS position" button on the first page of options, but I'm not sure.
Alternatively, you could look at some third-party add-ons like "Trip master" which can add points on demand or automatically records the route you've taken as a "breadcrumb" trail (I think that's what they call it!). |

The Zycast SG-289 can be set up for one button location record. See my review here. _________________ Darren Griffin |

If you have a PocketPC based gPS then the free software Outdoor GPS is very good. It has no mapping (background/contextual mapping) but is ideal for simply recording a track and waypoints for later analysis.
I've not tried but you might be able to use it with Voice Command for handsfree operation. |
