That's right. In fact you get up to 15 days at a time free. However, if you ask for say a long weekend, the cover will only be for the 3 or 4 days.
The 90 days is the total e.g. 45 x 2 days - 6 x 15 days.
With Direct Line I was told the actual days spent abroad would be totalled up to 90 days, But More Than told me each trip counts as 15 days, the 7th trip I would have to pay extra.
Back to Direct Line next year then. |

I just read that I need an international licence....is that true?
One of those sites also said Navigation Equipment is illegal in spain ( distraction)
Also,what would I need to do if my car died? What are the rules for abandoning a vehicle in France?Spain?

Are you a UK resident with a UK driving licence? If so you can just go.
If you are a visitor to Britain, there could be different rules. You may even need a Visa? For example, the holder of a "British & Commonwealth passport" issued in Kenya will require a Visa.

Not in France, as far as I'm aware. I've been doing day trips, longs weekends and 2 weeks holidays there since 1994 and I use my normal UK Licence.

It's illegal in Switzerland to have safety cameras on your device, even if you only have the UK ones. I've also read that Spain has, or are about to, banned camera databases. France evidently is OK.

In France a visit or call to a local garage is probably best. A number of years ago in the south of France, I had a strange knocking noise from what I thought was the gearbox. I had a Peugeot but the nearest garage was a small local Renault specialist. He diagnosed a wheeel bearing and fixed it in just over an hour for £60. On my return home I phoned the dealer where I had purchased the car and asked for a quote for a wheel bearing. £60 for the part + 2 hours labour + VAT.
If it was to die and become irrepairable, I suppose you could always buy a 'cheapie' to continue your journey/get you back home, and ask the dealer to scrap your one. It may be possible. |

Just sounds a bit strange proposing to take family in 14 year old car 1000s of miles around Europe without breakdown cover.
Probably difficult to get cover for such a car though. |

1) Wouldn't go without breakdown cover.
Came back 2 weeks ago after a fab 2 weeks touring France.
TT OV2 WE performed exceptionally well - except for a few navigations down a one way road (the wrong way).
The Itinery planning is useless IMHO. Doesnt work - if multiple waypoints are entered and a final destination near your current position (i.e. a circular day tour) then my TT navigated me straight to the destination ignoring the waypoints.
One the whole,
1) take a paper map - you cannot plan a day tour using TT.
2) TT is brilliant - even after taking the above into account.
Lastly - on our route to Portsmouth, my TT reset itself half way doen the A34 completely out of the blue. It was minding its own business navigating me to Portsmouth when it happened. No fingers were near at the time. Any ideas why? Seemed to carry on from where it left off so didn pay too much attention - still puzzles me though. |

I'm not disputing your findings, but this is something I've never experienced.
I've done a circular itinerary 8 or 9 times this year, in the UK, and never had one hiccup.

Agreed - it works on the route I just tried and worked for the 1st week in France. But for the 2nd week in France it behaved oddly. Only thing I have done since then was to update the GPS data but I cant see how this would affect the ability ro route plan.
I will post the route when I get a chance. |

Oh dear, I never looked into it that far.
You could always tell them you are going for 2 weeks, coming back home, on business or something for a week, and returning for another 3 week holiday after that.
Just don't break down in the uncovered week. :P |

Go to www.quotelinedirect.co.uk for Europe Assistance breakdown insurance for about £60 for a year including European cover.
Try Formule 1 hotels on main roads near most french roads(  Oops! Meant french towns. About £20-£30 per night for up to 3 people. Very clean and adequate for overnioght stops. Eat all you want breakfasts available at a modest cost. Try Google for the website.
Whatever you do in France, you are sure to enjoy yourself.
