Sorry to hear your problems. In your other post you say you added some POIs. Did you wait for the copying to finish before you unplugged the TomTom?
If you were using Windows to do the copying, you should always use the "Safely remove hardware" icon that appears in the system tray (by the clock) before you unplug, as the copying can LOOK like it has finished before it has. Neglecting to do this is a really easy way to corrupt files or the whole card.
If you used Home, the same thing applies. IIRC, you need to click on "My Device" and follow the prompts before you remove the plug.

Now, you don't say what model you have, but as you say there was an original map on a CD, that must be from the original Go "Classic" as no more recent model has supplied the map on CD (in the UK at least).

But from what you say, this is not the map you have been using up to now. How did you buy that one? The new product code would have arrived with it.

If the new map appears on TomTom Home, double clicking on the text, should bring up a box with the Product ID. Hovering the mouse over the text also brings up a "tooltip" with the info.
That code needs to be combined with the "Device code" of your Go at www.ttcode.com to get an "activation code" which is what you need to enter on-screen if and when the Go asks for it.

But, the best thing would be to get your latest map back from the backup.
Have you looked at the backup in Windows Explorer? There should be a folder with the maps name, something like "Great_Britain-Map" or "UK and IE plus major roads of WE" or whatever your map was.
Inside that folder should be a whole bunch of files but the most important ones will be called "cline.dat", "cname.dat,"cnode.dat" and "faces.dat". Can you find those? If so we are in with a chance of getting it back.

Sorry, a bit of a stream of consciousness there, but if you can answer any of the questions raised, and give us as much information about what you've actually done, and what map you were using, it will all help.

Hi thanks for the reply,

It is the classic and i bought it 2nd hand with a map already on it, not the one that it was shipped with, i stupidly chucked away cd case and box. i added the 2 poi via windows and could well have removed before finished and not exited the connection properly. i subsequently downloaded tom tom home to try and find product code of the basic map on disc and could not find it. i have downloaded a new map from tom tom on their advice, they say effectivley as i have no code i have no product. i have the 6.75 map to install later, it has downloaded from the web page to my tom tom home but will not fit on my sc card so a trip to dixons is on in a minute...

can i just check if i put this map on later and put the poi's on and it does it again, as long as i have the product code i can reinstall this map as many times as i like as effectivley i have proof of purchase?

thanks

Update

i am about to smash my tom tom to bits

after putting 2 poi on it yesterday and it wiping the map, i have just bought a new memory card installed my new map and the tom tom application (8mb)

after putting an application on that allows for 7 digit postcode, i then disconnected tom tom propely by ejecting it, it turns on know map found.

it seems to me whenever anything updates or is put onto it i get the no maps found message come up, and to be honest it is getting on my tits

i only want my new map with a couple of poi and 7 digit postcode search.......

should have added, after installing my new map and the application (8mb) i did a back up and it was all working fine at this point. after it saying no maps found i thought haha i will run the back up. go to restore and i get a error message

same as yesterday, it seems whatever i change on the tomtom leads to no maps found, and when i get this i can't even restore despite it all being in working order at the point of restore.

ok i seem to have my map working with the latest application 6.520 and map GB 675, but the only downside is i have now lost the facility to search by 7 digit postcode and its main use is this. i bought the map via a download yesterday and thought it would have this?

What map do you have on the GO?

What size card do you have?

How are you looking to select the postcodes? After the software was updated to v6.52 the postcode button was moved to "Address" page. It's not on the front "Navigation" page. Tap "Address" then the "Postcode" button.

Don't put a space in the postcode.

If EX1 1AA is supposed to be genuine, it isn't a valid postcode!!

Try BA29ET (that's BA2 9ET without the space) and you should be able to tap on Lower Bristol Road.

When you downloaded your map, you should have also received a couple of files called Zip Codes, which are the postal code files for the map. You should have installed these as well as the map.

They would have arrived with the map. Check the centre panel in TT Home, very bottom.
