Internal Navman Error

When trying to download 'Mobile' file from the 'consolidated by type' database, getting "Internal NAVMAN error" in POI editor. All other files download OK.
Using Navman iCN610, (software version 3.00.0029); SmartST V3 with SP1 (i3_2_1_03).
This is a larger file than the others. Could this be the problem, or is there a database bug?
I am downloading as an .asc file, since all the others work satisfactorily, but I am a little confused regarding the difference between .asc and .csv, how you can change from one to the other and when the different formats should be used.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This problem has revealed itself in the past and has left Navman (and us) baffled. It only seems to affect models running older (pre 2006) software and I think this is the third occurrence. The way I got round it was to delete a single camera in a faraway place and then everything worked fine. I know this isn't ideal, but it works. You'd need to edit the file with Notepad and just delete one whole entry. Camera 5610 looks a good bet, unless you live in or are travelling to the Scottish Highlands.

.asc and .csv are interchangeable here and you can use either.

Thank you, Tim, for your speedy reply. I have deleted 5610 and, hey presto, it downloads without a hitch. I'll keep away from the Scottish Highlands!

I've had a couple of problems with the latest version of the database. I've got a Navman ICN 520 with this years maps (including Europe) and latest software.

I've had the "Internal Navman error" problem mentioned in this topic and appeared to solve it by deleting the copyright notice but I've also got a few of the POI files where I keep getting the error "Unknown file format" even though as far as I can see in Notepad it's just the normal text file format. The majority of the POI's do download properly.

All previous downloads have aways worked without a hitch. Anyone got any ideas? Confused

Originally, I tried deleting the copyright notice, but found that only 20kb of the Mobile file was downloaded, when in actual fact there is in excess of 200kb, so it's worth checking that you have a complete download.
I also got the 'Unknown file format' message several times after using Notepad. As you say, there does not appear to be a rational explanation.
The deletion of the single camera, as detailed by Tim, does work. Why it works may remain a mystery.

Thanks to Pocket GPS World I've at last resolved the baffling "Unknown File Format" error on my Navman ICN 520 when trying to load the POI's database!

I found in 1 of the forums the key which was that the POI files (mine still seems to require .asc (not .CSV) format) need editing to remove the first line saying "longitude, latitude, name" and leaving a blank line for line 1 (then save it).

And that's it!!

So simple why did it take me so long to realise? Anyway, thanks again to Pocket GPS World. Keep up the good work!!

:D I tried several combinations to get over this problem. The one that won out was to delete a camera (I also deleted one from N Scotland as I live in S England)

Now my problem is how to load poi's from other web sites, eg Wetherspoons,. I can get them into an excel spreadsheet but do not seem to be able to save it to a format acceptable to my nav man (Pin 570). Any ideas?

From what I've found out about POI's on my Navman ICN 520 I know plain text is the only thing that is acceptable. Consequently everyone seems to emphasise using Notepad rather than Excel to ensure only plain text is in the file.
I also dicovered in the last Pocket GPS World database (for Europe cameras) that scientific notation had been used at 1 entry (0,1E-05,"MOBILE:33741@120" instead of 0.00000, 0.00001, "MOBILE:33741@120").
I think this may have been responsible for some of the problems I was having in saving the POI file to my Navman. In trying to work through the problem I used "POIedit2007" which initially threw up the error "Index out of bounds" but then "converted" the file to another format which I eventually manged to load to my Navman.
I realise you're using the Pin 570 but I'd guess the principles still apply. Hope this helps. Question

My brain was disconnected for that one obviously. I struggled for quite some time to get the file loaded and by that time was only too glad to get the data into my Navman. The co-ordinates are in the South Atlantic Ocean - South of Ghana. It could be a case of a very optimistic Camera Partnership!!!

My recollection is that I opened the text file in Notepad but I know I did also try Excel, Word, Wordpad and POIedit so I'll have to hold my hands up and say you're probably right.
