The Government want all smokers to stop, but they are "shooting themselves in the foot", less smokers means less taxes, less taxes means they are short on revenue, less revenue brings up the question - where else can i add more taxes?

Let's not ignore the reduction in the cost of treatment for all those that succumb to smoking related illnesses!

And add a bit more on for stress related due to not being able to smoke - less cancer, more heart attacks.

Any extra money generated in the Health Service, showing as "spare" will be absorbed into more management salaries.

As an ex smoker, i hate all smokers and good riddance to them all.

Funnily enough, as somebody who has never smoked Taunt , I don’t mind smokers as long as they are considerate and do not smoke anywhere near me or anywhere that I want to go! ;) Seriously smokers pay a lot in taxes, and that money should be spent on the NHS!

But i ask myself, where is this taking us?

They will start to tax alcohol even more and start to tax food. There may even be a "Fat Police" who have the ability to pull over people who have a high BMI and charge them on the spot fines! 8O Sad

Regards,

And lets not forget all the ex smokers will now live longer into pensionable life, no longer contribute in PAYE or ciggy tax and that means even higher taxes for everyone else, and when they become senile in 'very' old age, they will need hospital beds, so up goes NI contributions.

Off Topic As a former 60-a-day man (now ex and hating the faintest whiff), may I ask what the heck ciggies have to do with the topic of Ice Cream pricing?

What do you reckon this cost me in Corfu last week?

No you haven't won!! Unless you're a Greek gold merchant and I've been greatly overcharged! (But actually I was only joking - I didn't buy any of those last week).

It's not a public place in the legal definition of such so they can smoke.
