I have Windows XP Home: When I run the 'New Hardware' wizard, it doesn't find any driver, even though I have the Install CD in the drive, and Browse to the 'USB Driver' folder (which contains an .inf file).. I've tried all the USB ports (and have checked that they work!) with no joy Sad

I really like the MIO interface, but if I can't load in new voices or cameras, then it's not much use to me. Mp3s would be nice, but I'm not too fussed, most of the cars I drive have mp3 players anyway 8)

GPSBear, it's Philippa...

What exactly happens when you try to create a usb connection with the device? Do you get an error message?

What software are you trying to use? Miomap Updater? Synch?

Windows may not need to install the driver possibly because it is already installed. There could be another problem. If you post detailed information I'm sure someone will be able to help.

Switch on the Mio, conect to the PC, and I get an error message saying 'USB device not recognized'. Then I go the Hardware Device Manager, select Update Driver and navigate to the USB Driver folder on the Mio Insatll CD. The Wizard tells me that it can't find a better driver than that already installed. Stalemate.

Yesterday, I emailed Mio support and wonder of wonders, today they replied 8) Their comprehensive reply gave me instructions to do exactly what I have done.

I'm beginning to think that it is the Mio that is banjaxed in some way, and I have a feeling that it is on its way back from whence it came Sad

Both, but as I can't get the Mio connected, neither are much use atm...

Spoke to Mio support today on the phone - she was very pleasant and read through the first few pages of the Support Script, so wasn't too much help in the end. Then I e-mailed Support@Mio again. Now waiting for their reply (I was v. impressed with their speedy reply to my first enquiry)

But the Mio is now packaged up in the original box, and I feel it will be on its way back to Belgium in a couple of days Sad

So when you plug the device in to your PC you see an entry for the device in device manager under "Windows CE USB devices"?

If so maybe trying the following will help:

1) Uninstall all Mio related software on your PC.

2) Plug your device in. If it is recognised in device manager uninstall the driver for the device.

3) Once uninstall is complete disconnect the device from the USB port.

4) Reinstall the Mio software - synch and so on but do not run the software before you connect the device.

5) Reconnect the device. Windows should tell you - it just did with me - that a new device has been found and that it will need to install the drivers for "Windows Powered Pocket 2003 device". Allow Windows to install the device using its own database and *not* using the driver files that appear on the Mio CD.

6) Start the Mio software and the device should be detected.

If you still have no luck I would suggest attempting the above steps in a different order. Simply uninstalling the device driver and then forcing the Windows new hardware wizard to install the driver for the new device may fix the problem by itself.

I have found that I occasionally have t reinstall the USB driver for the device - using the new hardware wizard and the Windows database *not* the CD driver file - if I plug the device in to a new USB port.
