Hi,

I'm currently in the market for a new sat nav system, having finally decided to move on from my CoPilot 6 running on a Dell Axim x51v. My budget is around £350 or so (though the cheaper the better!). I've been looking mainly at products from Garmin, NavMan and TomTom and I'm getting very befuddled by all the info! So really I'm just wondering what people out there who have more experience in this field think of the different options.

My main requirements are something that works well in London (I've lost track of the number of routing errors on CoPilot), with good mapping of Ireland an added bonus. I'd really like to have the traffic info functionality and text to speech is a must. I'm not bothered about Bluetooth, in-built camera, mp3 player or most of that "added value" stuff (I think it all just equates to "increased price"). I also don't think I particularly need European mapping.

So the systems I've been looking at most closely are: Garmin Nuvi 660 (my main concern with this is that the traffic info module is built into the car charger and I often don't have my sat nav plugged into the charger because I dislike hanging wires!), Navman n60i (no major concerns about this one) and the new TomTom 720 or 520 (though obviously these aren't released yet).

So what do you all think? And I am missing some very good models from the above (all the model numbers confuse the hell out of me!). Should I perhaps be looking at other manufacturers?

All opinions are warmly welcomed. And anybody with real-life experience of the above systems please let me know what you think.

Kind regards,

Declan.

Thanks for the advice, I'll have a look at the Mio's now. I would miss TTS though; I've found it very handy to know what street I'm supposed to be turning down from the voice prompt when my actual position on the map hasn't been quite right (for example, supposed to be turning in 100 metres when I'm actually already at the turning) though perhaps that says more about CoPilot that TTS!

Anybody else have other advice?

My neighbour loaned me his Mio P350 with iGo 2006 Europe for a few weeks test drive. So far I'm well impressed.

It looks like goodbye to my TT5 when I get new maps. I've noticed iGo 2007 is out, so that'll be the one for me. That's the way i-Go.

TT, no comparison.

For a basic no frills solution that ticks all the boxes, I would suggest the TomTom ONE.
