Can anyone please give me an indication of the main differences between tele atlas & navteq maps.

tele Atlas intials are TA and Navteq are NT.

Seriously, by the time you see them, the difference is very small. Navteq are reported to be better, with TA catching up. I have heard comments that TA maps are were cheaper, but that was a long time ago (2 -3 years?) when Navman switched from NT to TA.

Navteq appear to be more up todate than Teleatlas, by about 2 to 3 editions.
