How's my Maths ?

Assuming
40k average per download for Tom Tom Traffic
£7.50 per MB for Vodafone PAYG

4 * 40k per hour = 160k per hour
1024k / 160k = 6.4 hours per MB = 384 minutes per MB
£7.50 per MB = £7.50 for 384 minutes = 1.95 per minute = £1.17 per hour.

So about £40 per year for the subscription and
£1.17 per hour to run.......

RDS-TMC for me I think.

If you want, my phone has GPRS counters which I run on orange PAYG which I am quite happy to reset. I've trialled the traffic for 1 week so far and it's been quite cheap. I have generally been doing my initial traffic info and then one update during the journey

When I have tried the service I get on average 100KB per hour when set to an update of every 15 Mins, not always this high but its a good average figure to work with.

I don't really want RDS-TMC as I don't want wires all over the place, also some (Garmin) have to be plugged into the cig lighter just for good measure.

My main reason for wanting a Sat Nav is the bluetooth and traffic.

I don't want to start having to change my PAYG number and wont pay over £1 an hour for updates.

Bit stuck really.

That's not too bad, capped at £1 a day, I'll have a look into that, time to swap number etc.... Cheers.

BBC Radio 5 Live (MW 693 & 909) traffic news at 15 minutes after and 15 before the hour, comes free with my fitted radio and it's as up to date as the TT Traffic via GPRS. Wink

I did say 15 past and 15 to - usually on the hour and half hour they give only a brief report, sometimes maybe even only one problem. Like the two TT methods, they are reliant upon information supplied to them, so all three are wrong at times. But .... UNLIKE the TT systems, Radio 5 is FREE. Until the RDS-TMC or TT Traffic get reliable and accurate (and don't get me wrong, I'd desperately, desperately, love to use RDS-TMC), I'm not prepared to pay for unreliable information if I can get the same for nothing!
