Hi,

I'm trying to create a POI file of roadworks, culled from data from the Highways Agency www.highways.gov.uk/default.aspx. Creating the POI file is not a problem but I want to be able to display the roadworks icons in the same way as the speed camera icons, but silently and at all speeds.

I seem to remember that someone had managed to achieve this with speed cams but can't find the thread (I have a feeling that gpx files come into it somewhere).

Can anyone enlighten me as to how to do it or point me in the relevant direction?

Many thanks

i'm intrigued as to why you want them showing but with no warning sounds? surely you will actually see the roadworks anyway when you get to them? plus, the garmin's don;t have an avoid function like some other sat nav's do.

sorry i can't help with regards to making the gpx files but i was just intrigued Smile

ps - i'm not having a go, i'm just curious!

It's mainly for the severe ones (which are predicted to lose you 30 mins or more) so that you can maybe take the first turning available (to anywhere, the sat nav will eventually get you to your destination). For instance you can forget about going anywhere (other than mad) if you are on the M25 jct 24--}jct 27 at 5pm but should sail through if you are there at 2am. Pretty much the last thing you want if you are stuck in a jam is your sat nav beeping at you to add to the frustration but it would be nice to know some distance before the roadworks, at whatever speed you're doing, that there is a potential nightmare in front of you.

I know because I was stuck for 40 mins in said M25 roadworks Angry and that's what gave rise to the idea in the first place.

dougconran - did you get anywhere with the roadworks POI files? I'm also interested in adding this to my satnav. Question

Assuming you've got an MP3 capable unit, you could achieve the silence, by associating the POI's with an 'MP3 containing 'silence'. You could make this association through naming the MP3 the same as the .csv or .gpx that defines the POI's, assuming you want them all to be silent. Regarding the triggering, you could use POI Loader in manual mode to set a speed or proximity or use one of the key words (like REDLIGHT) to set a default. If you wanted 'fine' control ... different proximities for different roadworks etc, then a gpx file might be necessary.
I think proximity distances for Motorways would have to be pretty big (at least a junction Smile ), in order for you to react to them.
