The choice of 'car' against the choice of 'truck' in the navigation options has a different route planned.

Just plan a route from the Ferry Port of Fishguard[from Ireland] to the Dover Ferry port to see if the route changes for car against truck!

I usually see Garmin users taking the 'scenic' route rather than the A40 through Haverfordwest. If you set truck then your route will always follow the 'normal' route rather than the scenic.
