i just got hold of tomtom 5 (given it by a mate who's gone to a different nav software)

tomtom works, but my gps card dosent, the gps card worked fine with tomtom 3, but on tomtom5 i get 'no gps devise' all the time.

I go into tt5's preferances menu, show gps menu, and select configure,
i select the 'other cable nmea gps' set the baud rate to 4800, select the 'CF-CARD GE' for the connection, which is exactly how i did it on tt3 (except i had to choose a brand then, but any of them worked)

But when i get back to the gps status screen, i get 'no gps devise!' in the upper left hand corner, BUT the yellow and black circle is spinning, which tomtom says means the gps is working.... but it's not.

i've had the thing in my van connected to the external antenna for an hour and a half, yellow and black circle spins but nowt else happens, before i could get 3 sats in my lounge, and got 9 the instiant i plugged in the external antenna.

Is there some patch or update for tomtom5 that will make this card work?

I've got the gpsinfo proggy on the pda (toshiba e740 running win mobile 2002) and that shows the gps card works, just tomtom dosent like it.

What can i do to make tomtom like my gps card???

Your problem sounds like the classic problem of the GPS being set to output SiRF data rather than NMEA mode, please have a read through THIS Thread where I detailed how to switch the device to NMEA output.
TomTom version 5 only understands NMEA protocol, whereas earlier versions understood both data protocols, its easy to switch - Mike
