I have brought a Nuvi 360 T and last weekend was the 1st chance that I had to take it out on a long run from Newcastle to Salford on Friday and back from Manchester Airport at 12 am this morning.
On approaching the outskirts of Manchester the sat nav started to come up with error message "external power lost switching to battery mode in 30 seconds" press button to continue, this happened right in the middle of the motorway junction's changing etc. I had to keep pressing all the time to stop it from shutting down

The satnav nearly ended in the Manchester Canal. On coming back near Preston on the M6 the same thing started to happen, after getting so cheesed off with the damn thing bleeping at me I switched him off as it was nigh on useless.
Can anyone suggest as to what's going on? I keep all the software up to date, sat nav is connected to the battery. I have read all the forums but I don't think that there is any record of anyone having this problem

Many thanks for your help

Jerry

Start with the charger lead and the socket, is this located fully in and doesn't wobble around leading to an intermittent connection, if you have access to another car try it in that and see what happens - Mike

I get the same in my BMW 5 series - I think their power sockets are not as good as some others. I do also think that the Nuvi power adaptor doesn't stay put as well as others I've used, but the car is certainly part of my problem.

Over came similar problem in my wifes Peugeot by using a 3 way splitter so she can still charge her phone.
The splitter has a short stubby plug unlike the long fused Garmin plug that flopped around in the cars next to useless short standard socket.

The other question is: is the Nuvi fully inserted into the cradle - if it's not fully clicked in you may experience similar problems like this.

I've had a similar problem and found that the charger can make an intermittent contact with the charger socket. I just wiggle it a bit and the red light on the charger comes back on. Bit naff i have to say, but i'll live with it now i've routed the charging lead behind all the trim to make it a permanent fixture.

Thanks guys for restoring my sanity, yesterday afternoon I went straight to Autosounds and told them to check the connections re the battery. They took the car straight in and checked it out. Lo and behold the connection behind the dashboard was a little loose so they have made it more secure. Connected it up and what a difference Dan TTS is talking much better.

Hi Swing thats thought had crossed my mind as well. I have decided to put a sticker on the A pillar so that when the mount drops off the screen due to hot weather then I can put it in the right position on the windscreen. Trying to find the last position when it was is easier in daylight. Not at 00.45 in Manchester airport deaprtures in the dark.

Many thanks for the helpful replies

From a very happy chappy called Jerry :D
