Best update for iCN520

Just updated my iCN520 to a Garmin Nuvi610T. Best thing I did.
1. Picks up satelites after only a few seconds
2. More accurate than iCN
3. Maps are better and bang upto date
4. Free Trafficmaster info included (No extra module required)
5. Unlimited POI's (Not just 25)
6. Great Customer support
7. Free software updates for life of unit
8. Get One

10. Extremely quick at mapping, recalculating

16. Warnings if going too fast when approaching speed (eh sorry safety)camera
must i go on.....?

Reasons against update

1. A few little quirks that take a little bit to get used to on the mapping
2. Comic font (but you get used to it!)
3. No Time to Arrival display (but will probably be in next update).

Do a search on net, as price changes everyday. Should be able to pick it up for about 260 quid. But sol my iCN for 100 quid and i was gonna upgrade if i kept it so theres 200 quid towards it!

I just upgraded my model T to a Toyota Celica
Advatages
1) much faster
2) much quiter
3) easier to drive
4) Looks nicers
5) More reliable
6) handles better

OK, the 520 is not as old as a model T, but in this world it might as welll be. When making comparisions make sure they are relivent, otherwise it does impact your credibility.

I have no dounts the NuVi is much better than the 520, but is it better than the newer navman models?

Understand your point but was waiting 6 months for the map update from Navman and was promised a software update 6 months ago. Maps are now out but was still awaiting the Software update.
I looked at the newer Navman's (Or is it Navmen?!) and even the tom toms.
I drive over 1000 miles a week to different destinations all over the UK and needed a new unit.
The size of the tom tom put me off.
And the awful customer support from Navman put me off more than anything.
Did a lot of research on which one to get so it was better in nearly every category... the Nuvi ticked all the boxes.

I somehow knew that would get a bite :D - you have justified your post better that I could have expreesed it.

Although a Navman fan for years, I think they have now lost the plot more than a little. An now I have a problem with Garmin. They are so bloody good how could I not buy one.

If you look at what happened, when Navman relased the 6xx series and TomTom the Go, Garmin went very quite - too quite. I made the mistake of thinking Garmin were off licking their wounds. How wrong could I have been.

They were obviously off developing a whole new range of products and avoiding getting wrapped up in resoruce hogging 3 monthly release cycle of bleeding edge beta version products. When they re-entered the market, what a fantastic product range they have came out with.

Perhaps older and wiser is as valid in high tech as anywhere else in life.

Glad there's a few responses to this one.
I really wanted to get a newer Navman as when i bought the 520 I thought it was the biz. (I even recommened them to several of my friends who were all impressed and bought one each).
However, The main factor in not getting another one was the false promises on updates from Navman. over six months delay at the last count... and still no new smartST for the 520 as promised many months ago.
I had the Nuvi 610T for a couple of weeks now, and already had 4 software updates automatically installed on the unit, and travelled around 2000 miles around the UK with no problems. The longest the unit has taken to pick up the satellites is around 15 seconds!

In response to one of the above posts, More than 25 POI's is very handy if you speed zone all the safety cameras and types...this takes up around 21 POI's alone.... then Petrol stations (of which the standard Navman ones are way off a lot of the time), Banks, 24 hour supermarkets... must i go on??

If Navman want to send me a recent unit to test against the Nuvi, please feel free, as i'd love to be convinced and swap back to Navman and post my findings on this forum with my tail between my legs. I travel around 1200 miles a week with work to different destinations every day and night.

I use the Navman 520 here in the US and it is disappointing that there is still no map updates from 2005. What is even more annoying is that there are a lot of roads and bridges obviously built more than 5 years ago that have yet to appear on their map.

When I contacted them about map updates last year, I was assured there will be a in January which I'd have to buy for $99. Well, this is going to April and still none.

Are there any compatible maps that one can download and use with the ICN?
